At the time, Michael Rypka took a big risk he'd hope would pay off. He quit his fulltime job as an executive chef, maxed out his credit cards, and purchased a food trailer and a red Vespa scooter with the ambitions of opening a taco joint. The result is Torchy's Tacos, an extremely successful eatery with locations all over Texas, including one in Houston not far from 3800 Main.

Guests shouldn't expect just an average taco at Torchy's Tacos. One look at the menu will tell you that. Some of the selections include the beef barbacoa with avocado and cilantro, the fried mushroom with corn, carrots, and refried beans, and the shrimp with jalapenos, queso, and coleslaw. Whatever you order, you can expect the veggies to be fresh and flavorful and the meat to be juicy and tender. If you stop by early in the morning, try some of the breakfast selections, which feature scrambled eggs, bacon, tomatillo sauce, and crisp potatoes.
