Houndstooth Coffee is a coffee shop with Texas attitude. Located on North Lamar Boulevard just off of 42nd Street, Houndstooth has become a go-to spot for those who like good coffee. And with everyone who works there having a good time while providing good service, it’s also a relaxing place, too! The décor is cool, but understated — a nice atmosphere to enjoy your morning. When you come to the counter, take your time, because there is a lot of different coffee to choose from. Also, you can get your coffee brewed three different ways. The baristas here are always happy to make your order to your specifications. Even the coffee cups are cool, with imprints of the state. Want to learn more about coffee and how to brew it correctly? Come to one of the weekly “cuppings.” Then take a pound home to make yourself.

Pinthouse Pizza: A Homegrown Brew Pub

The name might say Pinthouse Pizza, but here, beer is the star. Located on Burnet Road across from the Sunshine Community Gardens, Pinthouse Pizza doubles as a brewery. Classic flavors are made alongside seasonal brews that are available to enjoy right in the brew pub. If you’re new to the place, do yourself a favor and get a beer flight, four different brews that can give you a good idea of the flavors in Pinthouse’s arsenal (make sure to check out the calendar of special beers). The ambiance of the Pinthouse is pure beer garden, with long bench tables just right for hanging out with friends. And then, there’s the classic pizza and specialty pies, all tasty and made with fresh ingredients. The Pepperoni Pizza is a favorite among regulars.

Located in a small shopping center on Burnet Road in Rosedale, this is a quaint spot to come by for a glass of wine with friends or to stay for a bite to eat. The long bar, nice tables and décor with a little Middle Eastern flair will make you feel comfortable. There’s also an equally comfortable patio, which is also dog-friendly. Come for happy hour, and you’ll always find deals on selected wines and apps to share. (Try the Gouda Chicken Nachos.) Because the dinner menu is seasonal, it changes all the time; however, the high quality remains consistent, and you can always find a good wine to pair with any entrée. Brunch on the weekends is also a tasty option.

Like a supercomputer for your iPhone, WolframAlpha is a knowledge and computation app that will answer just about any question. If you type in a complex math equation the app will solve it and show you a step-by-step solution, and if you’d like to see facts about the economy in your city, it will provide graphs, charts and statistics to keep you up to date.

Wikipedia
The app version of the wildly popular website beloved by everyone from college students  to the ever-curious knowledge seekers of the world, Wikipedia provides encyclopedia-style articles about just about anything you can imagine. The app version even offers features like saved articles, nearby, and offline browsing to make your quest for knowledge even more convenient.

Math Ref

Gourmet Grocery Store Meets Great Eats at Epicerie

For relaxed dining, you can’t beat Epicerie. Located where Hancock Road meets Woodview Avenue, just look for the blue house, and you’ll be at Epicerie. Inside, it's clean and comfortable, a nice combination for a relaxing lunch with co-workers or friends. The menu is seasonal, so it changes all the time. But there’s always a good selection of house-made soups, salads, sandwiches and small plates. (Try the French Fries, a real favorite.)

Lots of folks also come in after work or in the evening to taste from a nice selection of wines and to share some terrific cheeses and cured meat trays. Don't miss the fresh-baked beignets! Epicerie is also a grocery and has shelves filled with foods and specialty products, so you can make something good at home.
