Hill-Berts Burgers: Home to Some of Austin’s Best Burgers and Wings

Since 1973, the Maldonaldo family has been building upon a burger legacy in the Austin area, and their dedication to creating fast food with great quality and fair prices has made them legendary.

Here, award-winning burgers are made to order from excellent ingredients, and locals rave about the food. Preparation is simple: Juicy patties are nestled atop grilled buns with lettuce, tomato, and onions, but simplicity is a virtue when it comes to burgers. Thick-cut french fries are perfectly prepared, as well. If you feel like branching out, the fried chicken sandwich is out of this world, and Hill-Berts is home to some of the best hot wings in town. (These wings are called "Dallas Wings" because “nobody in Austin likes Buffalo.”) Save some room for a “butter-fat” milkshakes, made with real ice cream.

The original Hill-Berts location on Burnet Road is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Delivery is offered.

Blue Star Cafeteria: Upscale Austin Comfort Food

Cafe Pacha: An Austin Cafe

Austin's Cafe Pacha is a popular go-to spot for a hot cup of Fair Trade organic coffee and a tasty bite to eat. It’s a tiny, brightly decorated spot and a great place to enjoy breakfast. Pacha's pancakes are some of its most well-regarded breakfast fare, filled with fruit and served with real butter and maple syrup. Breakfast tacos, french toast, omelets and burritos are also on the menu.

Cafe Pacha's food is made with organic produce, grains, dairy and eggs, and regular diners suggest that you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. You can even take home one of their delectable house-made deep dish quiches or pies. The quiche options include spinach & mozzarella, and quiche lorraine, while pie choices include apple, berry and pecan.

Located on Burnet Road across from the Sunshine Community Garden, Gusto stands for fun and enjoyment in Italian. Here at Gusto Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar, you’ll enjoy both the ambiance and the food. The restaurant has a quiet and casual atmosphere with subdued lighting, making it a nice place to go for a date. It’s also a good happy hour spot, with a nice selection of beers on tap and wines (try the house-made sangria), along with deals on apps and pizzas. And you can’t go wrong with the freshly made antipastos, pastas, and pizzas! Folks really like the signature polenta fries and the risotto. Try to come on the weekends for the brunch buffet!

There’s Lots of Sushi to Try at Maru Sushi

Located right on the corner of Burnet Road and West 47th Street, Maru doesn’t look like much from the outside, but your opinion will change when you come in. Inside, you’ll find a bright modern-casual spot with a nice sushi bar and comfortable seating. Your level of comfort will rise when you meet the friendly wait staff, who will be more than happy to help you with your dining choices. Both the traditional and spicy sushi selections are always made with the freshest seafood and other ingredients (locals like the spicy J-Roll and fresh Tuna Roll). Your order might take a while, but it’s worth it! The kitchen prepared items are also good, especially the Spicy Teriyaki and Udon Bowls. The lunch and dinner specials are tasty deals, and everything is available for takeout.

Located on Burnet Road near the North Loop Boulevard, the Austin Diner is an all-American spot for equally all-American food. Breakfast is a favorite here because you can get it in the morning or all day and night! Everything’s good, but folks really like the breakfast tacos, and some think the homefries are the best in town.

The lunch and dinner menus also feature tasty American diner fare that’s made with fresh ingredients and to order; nothing is frozen. The diner recently moved to a new location, so it’s a whole lot bigger. The décor is really cool and comfortable, with lots of chrome, blue walls, and oval windows. Can’t stay? There’s also take-out. And the Austin can cater your next party or event.

Classic flavors are made alongside seasonal brews that are available to enjoy right in the brew pub. If you’re new to the place, do yourself a favor and get a beer flight, four different brews that can give you a good idea of the flavors in Pinthouse’s arsenal (make sure to check out the calendar of special beers). The ambiance of the Pinthouse is pure beer garden, with long bench tables just right for hanging out with friends. And then, there’s the classic pizza and specialty pies, all tasty and made with fresh ingredients. The Pepperoni Pizza is a favorite among regulars.

Come for happy hour, and you’ll always find deals on selected wines and apps to share. (Try the Gouda Chicken Nachos.) Because the dinner menu is seasonal, it changes all the time; however, the high quality remains consistent, and you can always find a good wine to pair with any entrée. Brunch on the weekends is also a tasty option.
