Take a Dip in Lake Las Vegas

May 16, 2012 12:13 pm

A lot of the attention paid to the Las Vegas area is given to the man-made entertainment available in pretty much every direction on the famous Las Vegas Strip. But buildings aren’t all that the busy developers of Nevada have their hands in—they’re also attempting to do Mother Nature one better. One such example is Lake Las Vegas, a gorgeous body of water located just outside of town. 320 acres of water first filled in 1990 was used as the hub for a number of resorts and hotels, as well as a gorgeous residential community built according to an Old World Mediterranean theme. Celine Dion is just one of many famous individuals who call it home. With a number of casinos and shopping centers to visit in your spare time, it’s a sparkling alternative to the well-worn pleasures of the Strip.

This laid-back little diner is a breakfast lover’s dream! The Omelet House’s simple formula of serving up affordable home-style breakfast foods has made it very successful in Henderson. Open early for breakfast and late for lunch, the Omelet House has a homey atmosphere and an extremely friendly wait staff that keeps your coffee mug constantly full. Even better, all the food is cooked with zero trans fat frying oil and butter products, so everything retains the comfort quality of breakfast without the grease. That isn’t to say, though, this is a good spot for someone on a diet. The menu offers a plethora of options, including classic breakfast plates and buttermilk pancakes. The star item, of course, are the omelets, with options like The Cowboy Special, Petunia Pig, and Popeye. Pinball Hall of Fame: Flip Some Flippers

May 2, 2012 12:08 pm

Las Vegas is known for more than casino games. If you’re tired of throwing money down the slot machines, why not take a trip to the awesome Pinball Hall of Fame. This unique museum was the brainchild of one man, mega-fan Tim Arnold. Arnold started operating pinball machines in his native Lansing, Michigan at the tender age of sixteen, kicking off a lifelong love of the game. After selling his arcades, he moved to Vegas to retire – but brought his collection of over a thousand pinball machines with him. Bored with retired life, he started restoring the machines and eventually made them available for the community to play. The Pinball Hall of Fame features a massive selection of tables, each one set at just 25 cents a play – like the old days. Even better, the museum is run as a nonprofit enterprise on volunteer labor, and most of the money that it earns from admission goes to local charities!
