Pho Bowlevard: Littleton’s Spot for Vietnamese Cuisine

Vietnamese food is becoming more popular each day, and for good reason – the country’s cuisine is both accessible and complex in flavor, and many of its dishes are quite healthy. What’s generally considered the “national dish” of Vietnam is pho, a hearty, clear-brothed soup accented with slices of raw meat that quickly cook in the hot bowl. If you’re in Littleton and you feel the craving for a big bowl of pho, locals will recommend Pho Bowlevard without reservation. Each bowl comes paired with fresh basil, green onions and jalapeno peppers to season the broth to your liking. They also don’t use any MSG. Portion sizes are huge, so it’s easy to fill up here. The vermicelli bowls with char-grilled pork are also exceptional. If you’re not feeling like Vietnamese, they’ve recently added sushi rolls to the menu, which are proving popular.  Prices are fair and service is quick and efficient.

Old Mill Brewery & Café: Sit And Sip

Located in a historic building in downtown Littleton, the Old Mill Brewery and Cafe has quickly become one of the town’s favorite watering holes. Part of the reason for that is the food – old-school American comfort food, all cooked homestyle at great prices. The menu doesn’t have any surprises on it, but regulars rave about the buffalo wings, which come available in a panoply of flavors from traditional Frank’s Red Hot to the more exotic “Filipino Zinger.” If you’re really feeling hungry, go for the buffalo chili nachos, featuring a pile of tortilla chips drowned in house-made buffalo chili, cheese and jalapenos. Entrees are the standard stuff, with the burgers a special favorite. Each is made with a half-pound of 100% Angus beef, and some popular combinations include the Philly with grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms and Provolone and the Benedict topped with Canadian bacon, a fried egg and Hollandaise. They also brew their own beer, which aficionados find quite good.

Brooklyn M.C.’s Pizzeria: Big Apple Style Pizza in Littleton

New York is widely considered one of the hotbeds of pizza in the United States, but it can be hard to find that trademark thin crust outside of the East Coast. Littleton’s Brooklyn M.C.'s Pizzeria has it down solid, though, winning them a dedicated clientele of local diners. Owner Mike Colella is Brooklyn-born, but he relocated his family to Colorado in 1997. Once there, he was perplexed by the state of pizza in his new home, so decided to take matters in his own hands and open Brooklyn M.C.’s. The food here is well-loved – sauce and crust are made fresh daily and every pie is constructed to order. The result is toothsome thin-crust pizza that pleases local diners. Regulars rave about the Miss Liberty with breaded eggplant and ricotta, as well as the Original Soprano – loaded with ham, mozzarella, pesto, fresh tomatoes, basil and olive oil. Their sandwiches and strombolis are also worth trying.

McKinners Pizza Bar: Serious Slices

Beer and pizza are close friends, so it’s not surprising that McKinners Pizza Bar is a Littleton institution. Canadian-born owner Kevin Kinaschuk opened the place in 2006 to provide local diners with a great casual place to enjoy a meal with exceptional service and high-quality food. It seems to be working, as the restaurant is almost always packed. The pizzas here have some unusual combinations that you won’t find anywhere else, like the Oystermiller – sausage, mozzarella and smoked oysters – and the prosciutto, pear, fontina and mozzarella pie. They may sound a little weird but one slice will make you a believer. Of course, you can craft your own pie and select from the absurdly large list of possible toppings. McKinners also sells tasty sandwiches, including a great Cuban sandwich. Prices are fair and portion sizes are very generous. They have live music on Saturday nights from a diverse selection of local bands.
