Eleven Regional Managers Complete CAPS Coursework at AAGP

Eleven multi-site managers attended the Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor designation program classes at AAGP earlier this month. To earn the NAA designation, the attendees must attend all five class days and then successfully pass a final online exam. Several have already passed their exam and will be formally announced at the AAGP Awards Banquet on September 13, 2012.  AAGP plans to host CAPS again in 2013.  Thanks to our 2012 CAPS instructors: Christine Young-Gertz, Mike Beirne, Mary Pacini, Karen McAlonen and Cynthiann King.

Missed CAM Kickoff? We’re starting again in January!

For the past several years AAGP has been experimenting with offering the 9-class CAM designation program for property managers in a semester style, beginning in the Fall and ending in the Spring.  That way, our students who were very ambitious could actually finish the required project in time to appear on stage at our Fall banquet.

While this schedule has worked well for many students, others have requested that we go back to offering the entire class program within the same calendar year.  So this year AAGP is providing BOTH options!

If you were unable to start CAM at AAGP last week, you can start classes in January, 2012 and finish in June, 2012.  If you work on your project througout the spring and then finish it up in the summer, there’s still a chance that you’ll be able to appear on stage at the AAGP banquet in the Fall of 2012.

So don’t wait another year – budget for CAM in 2012 and get started in January.  The schedule is up on the AAGP site right now.

Is Your Organization Healthy?

There is nothing more important in business than being healthy, yet so few organizations have a plan in place to ensure their ongoing good health.  To be healthy means that your customers and your employees rave about you and enjoy the relationship they have with your company.  Do your customers rave about you?  If not, why not?

Next month, AAGP will host a training session for property owners, executives and regional managers to provide insight into this issue.  Bill Nye, a national apartment industry speaker and former regional property manager, property manager and maintenance director, will share critical tips on how to build cohesion, clarity and better communication within your organization.

To all of you execs and regionals out there – give yourself a treat and get into class on August 11th.  In addition to picking up great tips from Bill, you will leave refreshed and energized after having a couple of hours with your industry peers.  And, as usual, AAGP will provide decent coffee and surprisingly good muffins.  Grab the flyer or register online at www.aagp.com.  Hope to see you there.

What did I miss?

Hi everyone and welcome to AAGP’s new education blog.  This is our forum for sharing ideas, links, insight, trends and anything related to education for the apartment industry.

I didn’t make it to the NAA show last week, but I know many AAGP members were out in Vegas.  If you attended any training sessions, please share your thoughts on the topics and instructors which made an impression. AAGP adds educational programming throughout the year, and we often rely on recommendations from members when selecting speakers.  Back in March we enjoyed Leadership Training with Doug Chasick, and we have Bill Nye and Sue Weston coming this summer and Fall.  We’ll be finishing the year with the Apartment All Stars on November 9th.

We are also lucky to have many local professionals and AAGP members who are willing to share their expertise in training sessions, and I’m currently building a local trainer roster.  So if you or one of your colleagues is qualified and would like to train your peers, let me know.
