Have a Surplus of Mint on Your Hands? Try These 3 Recipes!
Even gardeners lacking any sort of green thumb can grow mint. This herb is loved (and loathed!) for its tendency to take over an entire garden, offering a veritable bounty of green leaves all summer long. Whether you're dealing with a surplus of mint from your own windowsill garden or you were gifted a mint bundle from an exasperated coworker, these three recipes will put the herb to good use.
Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream [The Kitchn]
Mint leaves are crushed, then steeped in a cream and sugar mixture for an hour, imbuing the ice cream with a fragrant, herbal taste. Chunks of dark chocolate are added into the mix at the end.
Warm Rice Salad with Peas and Mint [Huffpost Taste]
Regular rice is elevated in this summery side salad. Cooked rice is flavored with garlic and shallots, then brightened with the contrasting flavors of lemon juice, mint, and fresh peas.
Basil Mint Parsley Raw "Pesto" Sauce Recipe [Gluten-Free Goddess]
Cheese and nuts are omitted in this recipe for raw pesto sauce, which relies solely on basil, mint, parsley, garlic, olive oil, and salt to create a refreshing sauce for pasta, salmon, grilled corn — whatever you desire!
Happy Memorial Day!
Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday as we remember all those heroes who have served our nation.
Tantalize Your Taste Buds With Cuban-American Fare at South Shore Grill
An “American grille with a Cuban flair,” South Shore Grill has earned rave reviews from locals for its huge portions of flavorful food. When you walk in the front door, you’ll immediately be wowed by the amazing smells wafting from the kitchen. They’re not afraid of spice and flavor here, so prep your palate accordingly.
After you open the menu, you might not know where to start, so here are some insider tips: Start with the Cuban fish tacos. They’re made with a char-grilled filet of grouper seasoned with cilantro and topped with Monterey Jack, then wrapped in a soft corn tortilla. Also excellent is the Crab Cake Duvall, topped with a delicious key lime mustard sauce. On Tuesdays, South Shore Grill serves a house special prime rib with au jus and a horseradish sauce that’s not to be missed.
The atmosphere is quiet, comfortable, and classy, and the service is absolutely exceptional.

5 Easy Ways to Improve Your Memory
We’ve all been there: You get to the grocery store and completely blank on what you need to buy, or maybe you forget the names of people you know you’ve met a dozen times. If you want to learn how to improve your memory and avoid these situations, these five tips can help.
- Get enough exercise and sleep. Physical activity increases oxygen to the brain, which enhances its activity. When you’re sleep deprived, your brain doesn’t operate at full capacity. Get a full eight hours to improve your memory.
- Hang out with friends. While many people think that completing a complicated puzzle improves your brain’s capacity for memory, this isn’t entirely true. Our brains want to remember things that make us happy, such as spending time with friends.
- Decrease stress. Chronic stress destroys brain cells and damages the hippocampus, both of which are necessary for memory. Check with a doctor to see if anti-anxiety medication may benefit you.
- Improve your diet. Certain nutrients in food can help to improve memory, including omega 3s in fish, vitamins in fruits and veggies, and antioxidants in green tea.
- Try new things. Stimulating your brain with activities that are out of the ordinary keeps it growing and developing. Read a difficult book, start an art project, or learn an instrument to help improve your memory.

It’s Always Time for Tea at Holly Berry Tea Room
League City locals looking for a relaxing way to spend an afternoon are invited to visit the Holly Berry Tea Room, a charming little business that specializes in traditional English teas. The ritual of afternoon tea and sandwiches is very Continental, and Holly Berry does it to perfection.
The tea room is located in a converted house on Founders Square. There’s some interesting history behind the complex: the town took five 1920s houses from around the area, uprooted them from their foundations, and transplanted them to one block to serve as retail stores. Once you’re there, you’ll get the royal treatment of your choice of excellent teas, both caffeinated and herbal, served in fine china with light dishes alongside them. The salads here are fresh and tasty and the cheese plates are quite nice.
If you want to visit, it’s highly recommended to call ahead because Holly Berry books many days in advance.

Crusty Garlic Bread Sets the Tone at Pomodoro’s Cucina Italiana
When you walk in the front doors of Pomodoro's Cucina Italiana, you'll be greeted by the fragrant aroma of garlic, basil, and other smells signature to excellent Italian fare. That said, you'll most likely be left with a craving for garlic bread, a fan favorite here. A crusty Italian baguette is slathered with rich, decadent garlic butter, which regulars report is worth the calories. Or start off with the fried mozzarella, which is also very good.
For entrees, the selection is extensive. Regulars rave about the hearty lasagna, which comes in a massive portion that will satisfy even the biggest appetite. Also good is the lobster ravioli with cream sauce and the poached seafood chilled and served on a bed of fresh mixed greens. Leave room for some tiramisu for dessert; you won’t be disappointed.
Pomodoro's Cucina Italiana is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant also delivers, should you feel like staying in for the night.
