Mrs. Gatti’s Gourmet: Treat Yourself to a Gourmet Cupcake

Cupcakes are some of the trendiest desserts in recent years, and many gourmet bakeries create off-the-wall flavor combinations that make these handheld treats even more delicious. Mrs. Gatti’s Gourmet is a lesser known name in cupcakes, but this League City bakery's deliciously unique and quirky cupcake flavors would rival any of the popular, big city cupcake bakeries.

Options like candy bar, Italian cream cake, and the famous Kentucky Derby are baked to moist perfection and topped with decadent buttercream frosting, and many say they’re almost too pretty to eat. Equally as charming as the cupcakes is Mrs. Gatti’s bakery itself, which is located in an adorable yellow house with blooming flowerbeds and umbrella-covered tables out front. Stop in to grab a dozen cakes to-go or to enjoy a cupcake for dessert!

Mrs. Gatti’s Gourmet is open 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Butler Longhorn Museum: Home to a Collection for the Record Books

The cattle industry is one of the most vital elements of Texas’s history, and one of the most interesting places to learn about it is at the Butler Longhorn Museum, which once served as the private residence of banker Walter Hall.

The longhorn cattle after which this place are named are iconic beasts of the Texas prairie, with huge horns projecting from their heads, and the Butler Longhorn Museum celebrates their lives in fascinating ways. The museum’s collection of horns is slated to be included in the Guinness Book of World Records as one of the largest in the world. In addition to the horns, the museum boasts many other interesting exhibits. The museum regularly displays artwork from League City-area creative people, and private events are booked in the facility.

The grounds of the museum are also very well maintained, and many visitors just enjoy wandering them on pleasant days.

It’s Always Time for Tea at Holly Berry Tea Room

League City locals looking for a relaxing way to spend an afternoon are invited to visit the Holly Berry Tea Room, a charming little business that specializes in traditional English teas. The ritual of afternoon tea and sandwiches is very Continental, and Holly Berry does it to perfection.

The tea room is located in a converted house on Founders Square. There’s some interesting history behind the complex: the town took five 1920s houses from around the area, uprooted them from their foundations, and transplanted them to one block to serve as retail stores. Once you’re there, you’ll get the royal treatment of your choice of excellent teas, both caffeinated and herbal, served in fine china with light dishes alongside them. The salads here are fresh and tasty and the cheese plates are quite nice.

If you want to visit, it’s highly recommended to call ahead because Holly Berry books many days in advance.
