McAllister Park: A Mountain Biker’s Paradise in San Antonio

If you’re an avid mountain biker or just someone who enjoys the occasional hike, McAllister Park is a must-see green space in the San Antonio area. This beautifully scenic public park is filled with miles of paved trails, dirt trails, and everything in between, creating a great day of fun outdoors in the saddle of your trusty bike. While you ride, you’ll often encoutner shy white tail deer, rabbits, native birds and other wildlife in their natural habitats along the wooded trails.

There are large, grassy fields where you can have a picnic or even play a game of Frisbee, and if you’re looking for a more serious place to play, McAllister Park also contains baseball fields and soccer fields perfect for a pick-up game. The entire park is also dog friendly, so you’ll even find people walking their four-legged friends along the trails or in the small dog park in the park’s center.

Get Up Close and Personal With Picasso and Monet at the McNay Art Museum

Did you know that you could find rare paintings from artists like Monet, Picasso, Renoir and more here in San Antionio? If not, you must not have heard of the McNay Art Museum in Terrell Heights.

Founded in 1954, the McNay has grown from namesake Marion McNay's modest 500 piece collection to nearly 20,000 unique works of art. It's all contained in an expertly designed museum and gallery that now holds exhibits, a garden, lectures, and classrooms. The collection contains American, European, Southwest, Medieval, and Renaissance art. The McNay houses an incredible collection of theatre arts depicting scene and costume designs through the centuries. Paintings and sculptures by the well-known and little-known sit side by side.

In addition to the main house, you will love walking the beautiful grounds surrounding The McNay. Closed on Sundays, but open the rest of the week, you can get the most bang for your buck by going Thursday nights from 4 to 9 p.m. where the main house is open for free. To see the rest admission ranges from $15+ for adults.

Get outdoors and enjoy Universal City at its municipal park. The City Municipal Park is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and is pet friendly, making it a great place to get out and walk with man's best friend or solo on the half-mile walking and jogging path. Groups will love the park too. Get some friends together for a pick-up softball or baseball game on one of the three lighted fields in the back. Pack a picnic and enjoy it in the shade of the Universal City Pavilion where you can also play a game of basketball, rain or shine.

If football or volleyball are your sports, there are full-sized areas for those as well, making the city park a great spot for a weekend match. Disc golf is available as well as two playgrounds for the kiddos.
