Twirl a Fork Into Fettuccine Alfredo at Gianna Italian Kitchen

While Gianna Italian Kitchen is not quite out in the country (it’s located in one of historic Tomball's small shopping plazas), regular customers single out the hometown atmosphere as a highlight of this Italian eatery. Perhaps the only thing Gianna’s customers appreciate more, in fact, is the food itself. That said, don't let the strip mall exterior fool you: the majority of patrons praise the quality and value of Gianna's meals, with some even saying it's the best Italian food they've ever had! Standouts on the menu include house-made garlic bread, crab-stuffed mushrooms, and the rich, creamy fettuccine Alfredo.

Take note that Gianna Italian Kitchen does get busy, particularly on weekends, so make a reservation or you may need to wait a half-hour or so for a table. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner.

Save Room for the ‘Brownie Meltdown’ at Pecos Grilling Company in Tomball

The owners of Pecos Grilling Company, Dodge City sheriff Fred Sembera and executive chef Chuck Buenger, conceptualized Pecos as a top-quality steak and seafood restaurant with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Take a walk through the dining room, and you’ll likely see parents and children enjoying a family meal, old-timers swapping stories over prime rib, and young singles enjoying themselves at the bar.

As for food, regulars recommend the fried asparagus appetizer followed by the pecan-grilled sirloin with fried shrimp. If you can take the heat, go for the jalapeno-topped Diablo Burger, or opt for something a little more comforting — perhaps an order of pot roast, "Mom's" meatloaf, or Grandma Glady's made-from-scratch chicken and dumplings. Whatever you do, try to leave room for dessert: the restaurant's brownie meltdown is the stuff of legends, and you can't go wrong with the rum-sauce-drizzled grilled banana!

Taste Why Mel’s Country Cafe Is a Southern-Fried Favorite

When a restaurant uses the same recipes since 1977, you know they must be doing something right. Mel’s Country Cafe has been run by the Weirich family ever since it was known as Mary’s Fried Chicken over four decades ago, and the eatery's classic brand of Southern comfort food has gained quite a following in the Tomball area. The restaurant is known for its hamburgers, which are juicy, flavorful, and piled extremely high. The other items are just as large—and also just as tasty. The breaded catfish is thick and crispy, the chicken fried steak is done to perfection, and the traditional Southern sides are the perfect accompaniments.

Mel’s is decorated in an equally traditional style inside, with checkered tablecloths and photos of smiling customers on the walls. It is fairly small, however, so make sure you have a bit of time to wait for a table when you plan a visit.
