The majestic California Redwoods are one of Mother Nature’s greatest achievements. These massive trees, which can be up to 1,800 years old, are the anchors to some of the most beautiful forests on Earth. Big Basin Redwoods State Park was the first state park incorporated by California in 1902, and is home to the largest strand of Coast Redwoods south of San Francisco. With over 80 miles of trails to explore, dedicated hikers will find themselves trekking through misty, verdant basins one minute and cresting the tops of beautiful, sunlit ridges the next. The many gorgeous waterfalls that decorate the park are a frequent destination for visitors. Fans of wildlife will have a lot to look for—the park is inhabited by deer, raccoons, chipmunks, and squirrels, and lucky hikers will catch a glimpse of the occasional black bear or bobcat. A huge number of birds and amphibians also call Big Basin home.
