Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum: Take a Peek Inside Local History

July 10, 2015 | sack

The Murphy family were part of the first group of settlers in what would become Sunnyvale, and quickly made a name for themselves by shipping their Maine home to California, piece by piece. They solidified their Santa Clara Valley legacy by pouring their funds into an extension of the railroad there—Sunnyvale was originally dubbed "Murphy Station." At the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum, you can not only explore a near replica of their family home—which burned to the ground in 1961—but also take a look back on local history.

The museum houses artifacts from Sunnyvale's history in a permanent exhibit, as well as relics from all over in a rotating exhibit. Roughly 3,000 local students file through its door every year to learn about their local culture, along with residents and out-of-towners.
