Visit the Brick-and-Mortar Location of Former Food Cart Onigilly

August 15, 2018 | sack

After several years operating solely as a food cart, Onigilly founder and owner Koji opened up his first storefront location in the San Francisco financial district in 2012. The Palo Alto location, the fifth in the chain, made its debut this summer, featuring the signature Japanese street food onigiri—brown rice and seaweed wraps stuffed with various ingredients–that made Koji’s original food cart such a success.

The eatery’s new location on University Ave near the Palo Alto station makes this a convenient stop for lunch or a quick bite on your way home from work or class. In addition to offering 18 different varieties of onigiri ranging from sour pickled plum to spicy bacon, the menu also features salads, soups, noodles, and traditional Japanese side dishes. If it’s your first time, an Onigilly Set (similar to a combination meal) is probably your best bet to taste the shop’s signature dishes.
