The Secret Kitchen: Tastes from All Over the Globe

June 30, 2015 | sack

North Africa, Central America, and Asia. France, Germany, and Thailand. Saint Helena and Mountain View. Brenda Anderson's pursuit of culinary knowledge has led her all around the globe and back to California. She put down roots in Petaluma with the debut of The Secret Kitchen.

It incorporates the far-flung flavors and culinary techniques that Brenda picked up on her globe-trotting adventures, particularly those of Asian cuisine, but she enlists local, organic ingredients to do so. Regulars praise the Korean barbecue taco, stuffed with tender chicken and kimchee, cilantro, and pickled red onions, all smothered with the house's "special sauce." The classic Vietnamese banh mi sandwich is also a hit among customers, filled with slow-roasted pork, pickled daikon and carrots, a blend of spices, and peanuts—along with the secret sauce. Even the roll for the banh mi comes from a local institution, the Full Circle Baking Company in Penngrove.
