The Petaluma Wildlife Museum Gives Visitors a Close-Up Look at California Wildlife
April 25, 2016 | sack
The Petaluma Wildlife Museum is a unique experience for wildlife lovers from all around California. This kid-friendly museum houses preserved specimens of more than 50 different animal species, as well as geological and environmental displays. It also focuses on educational programming, so it can be a good place to visit with the entire family.
When you visit the Petaluma Wildlife Museum, you can wonder at the size of a stuffed grizzly bear standing on its hind legs, or gaze at diorama showing a family of foxes gathered around their den. Once you've seen the major mammal displays, head over to the forestry area and learn to read the growth rings on trees, or examine the way a snowy white owl uses its claws to securely grip the branch on which it lands. Kids and teens who are especially enthusiastic can even sign up for extended programming, like summer camps, after-school docent training, and short-term courses in wildlife biology and animal husbandry.
