Fresh butter, ripe fruit, and real vanilla beans—these are the kinds of whole, natural ingredients you can expect to taste in every cupcake at Cupcake DownSouth. Perhaps these high-quality ingredients are the reason Cupcake DownSouth boasts three locations, including one right in Charleston. Of course, it could be that bakers churn out more than 50 types of inventive cupcakes, with a different selection depending on the day.

Many of the staples are offered every day, such as the Chocoholic, the Southern Red Velvet, and the Vanilla Bean. Other classics only come from the kitchen on certain days of the week, however, such as the Black Bottom (Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays) and the Salted Caramel Chocolate (Thursday through Saturday). The same goes for seasonal flavors, such as the White Chocolate Raspberry and the Banana Pudding, as well as the "After Dark" cupcakes inspired by cocktails. The Charleston location offers vegan cupcakes on Wednesdays and Fridays, and gluten-free cupcakes every day.
