COAST Brewing Company: Local, Sustainable Beers
September 19, 2016 | greystar
When the naval base on Charleston's North 2nd Street went dormant, COAST Brewing Company swooped in to transform it into something new. The founders breathed new life into the formerly lackluster building, creating a family-owned brewery and tasting room that attracts crowds every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoon.
Come by the tasting room when it's open to try any of the organic, local beers on tap. Sustainability is the most important aspect of the brewing process here, which means the brewers are dedicated to using local ingredients even if they aren't certified organic—a costly certification that not all small farmers can obtain. The lack of the certified organic label doesn't detract from the brews, though, especially the popular IPAs. Locals say you can't miss the Boy King Double IPA, which enlists citrusy hops for a tropical taste.
