March 6, 2013 3:30 pm

If a trip to Disneyland has left you thirsty for a more intellectually stimulating experience, take a day trip from Coventry Court Apartments to Santa Ana's Discovery Science Center and recharge your mental batteries in this top-notch facility. Opened in 1998, this is one of the largest science museums on the West Coast, with over a hundred amazing hands-on exhibits to entertain and educate. A massive ten-story solar array cube provides power for the structure in an environmentally responsible way while also providing a striking local landmark. Once inside, kids will flock to the cloud ring generator, rock climbing wall, hurricane tube, and other awesome nature-related exhibits on the first floor. Upstairs there’s a tremendous assortment of construction toys and tools to let kids work out their own ideas. This is a place where it’s very easy to blink and find a day’s gone by, so set aside lots of time for your little ones to explore.

Taste the Grape in Temecula Wine Country

February 27, 2013 12:02 pm

Unlike many Johnny-come-lately wine destinations in the United States, the Temecula Valley has over two centuries of history in getting grape to glass. The first vintners were Catholic padres at Mission San Juan Capistrano, who embraced the excellent viticulture of the area. Commercial wineries have been active since the late 1960s, and the area has grown into both a popular tourist destination as well as a quick trip for Los Angeles area locals. Wineries often double as bed & breakfasts in the area, many of which are booked up months in advance. And they're a great destination for day trips or weekend excursions from Coventry Court Apartments.

Recommendations include the Falkner Winery, which is located in a gorgeously-designed hilltop building; the Longshadow Ranch Vineyard and Winery, which has six generations of expertise in play in their delicious wines; and the Mount Palomar Winery, which has a lovely patio to sit and relax. When you’re done tasting, the nearby Pechanga Resort & Casino is a heck of a good time as well.
