Painting with a Twist: They’ll Supply the Wine

Unlike similar paint-and-sip art studios, Painting with a Twist doesn't task its guests with bringing their own booze. The studio supplies it. As part of a much larger chain, the Painting with a Twist in Newark pours complimentary drinks for its pupils, including beer and wine—but also coffee and tea, if you prefer.

The free beverages are really just the icing on the cake at Painting with a Twist, though. The main even is your painting class, during which a seasoned artist will walk you through recreating a famous or simply fun and colorful painting. The instructors take it slowly so that everyone can keep up, even if you're not much of an artist yourself. Newark Natural Foods: See What a Co-Op Has to Offer

Newark Natural Foods is a grocery co-op that's been serving Newark residents since 1975 when a handful of families banded together to buy organic food in bulk. Since then the co-op's membership has grown to more than 3,600 households, and the store includes thousands of different items in its inventory, while still remaining true to its founding principles: to provide goods that are produced using sound environmental principles and to extend access to organic food.

Of course, this means that the co-op specializes in providing local, organic produce, as well as grass-fed beef, free-range eggs, and other ethically produced animal products. In addition to the store's own produce section, you'll find a seasonal farmers' market in front of Newark Natural Foods during the summer weekends.

How to Start Jogging — Safely!

You might not think of yourself as much of a runner, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t start. Jogging is a great way to get outside, build your endurance, and maybe even drop a few pounds, and these expert tips will show you how to start doing it in a safe and enjoyable way.

  1. Check with your doctor. If you’re unsure about your health, it’s always smart to check with a doctor before beginning any new exercise plan. Tell your doctor about your plans for jogging and work together to create a safe, accessible workout routine.
  2. Wear the right clothes. Be sure to wear sturdy, well-fitting running shoes so that you don’t injure yourself while jogging. Stay cool and comfortable with loose shorts or pants, and stay warm in layers if the weather is chilly.
  3. Warm up. Warming up helps you to gradually increase your heart rate, so be sure to walk or slowly jog for at least 20 minutes before jogging.
  4. Stretch. Avoid cramping muscles and prevent injury by stretching your limbs before you set out, but after warming up. At this point, your muscles will be warmed up and stretch more easily.
  5. Cool down. Walk to cool down your muscles for at least five minutes after jogging to prevent lactic acid build-up in the legs.

The Delaware Apartment Association’s Apartment Angels Program Houses U.S. Veteran and Son at Evergreen Apartments at Riverfront Heights!

Evergreen Apartment Group has been a part of the Delaware Apartment Association's Apartment Angels charity since its founding. Evergreen Apartment Group President and CEO, Kevin Wolfgang, started the charity when it was realized that there was a solution to help those who had found themselves in a temporary hardship and in need of housing, and to fill vacant apartments. The hope is that six months of donated rent by the participating apartment company will help a person and/or family get back on their feet and become a long-term renter. Evergreen Apartment Group has really been a pioneer and the leader in the multi-family industry in Delaware with regard to philanthropic engagement, and we are happy to participate in another cycle of helping Delaware families, this time, a Veteran’s family. This also marks a significant milestone for the Apartment Angels program. Since the program was founded and established in 2010, we have now donated more than $300,000 in housing grants.

Celeste is a single mom and a Veteran, who came upon hard times when she was in a terrible accident. Celeste and her son are the newest residents at Evergreen Apartments at Riverfront Heights, and we couldn’t be happier to have her. Like all applicants to the program, there is a multi-tiered screening process as well as an interview. Celeste seemed like a perfect fit for our Apartment Angels program as well as our Riverfront Heights community! She has family members that live in nearby neighborhoods of Wilmington, including an Aunt only a block from the Riverfront Heights property. Her son will be starting school in Downtown Wilmington, just minutes from Evergreen Apartments at Riverfront Heights, so this community is an ideal for their family. Don't count out Sixth and Pine just because it's located inside of the Christiana Mall's Nordstrom. The big-name department store actually has a reputation for serving high quality cuisine in its in-store restaurants, and Sixth and Pine is no exception. Modeled after the quintessential '50s diner, Sixth and Pine recreates comfort food in a contemporary way that both delights and surprises diners.

Snag a red vinyl booth or a stool at the counter and browse the menu of revamped diner fare. Try the BLTA sandwich, which takes the classic BLT and adds avocado (plus whole-wheat bread). Or dig into the crisp roasted chicken served with garlicky fingerling potatoes, a far cry from the typical chicken tenders. Flat-iron steak, turkey chili, and cilantro-lime chicken salad round out the menu of modern American fare. Save some room for a classic dessert, perhaps the apple cobbler a la mode or the warm chocolate cookie sundae.
