As Agave Mexican Grill approaches the fifth anniversary of its grand opening in downtown San Jose, there’s plenty to celebrate. Known for its huge burritos and happy hour specials, this charming little eatery just across the street from City Hall has become a neighborhood favorite.

This is especially the case during weekday lunch hours, when you’ll see crowds forming to enjoy dollar tacos and complimentary chips, accompanied by a variety of fiery sauces from the house salsa bar (which also includes chopped onions, cilantro, lime, and jalapenos). Regulars say that you really can’t go wrong with any of the tacos, but the carnitas and tacos al pastor are particular favorites. Starting at 3 p.m., Agave also offers a variety of happy hour specials, including half price margaritas, sangria, and horchata. If beer is more your speed, you’ll be happy to know the bar has twelve taps of rotating drafts to choose from.
