Enjoy Bite-Sized Japanese Confections at Shuei-Do Manju Shop

April 23, 2019 | sack

If you’ve never tried the Japanese confection manju, allow Japantown’s Shuei-Do Manju Shop to introduce you. Manju is a sweet rice (mochi) patty, traditionally stuffed with sweetened red or white bean paste and topped with other tasty ingredients. The manju makers at Shuei-Do infuse their treats with even more creative ingredients in an effort to surprise and delight sweets-seekers.

For instance, you can nibble on a bite-sized manju filled with creamy peanut butter or a sweet melon cream. Of course, you can always snag the traditional bean manju, too. If you can’t decide what to order, just grab one of the pre-packaged assortments. The shop also serves up specialty shaved ice creations, perfect for a hot day in San Jose. Try a mix of watermelon and orange shaved ice piled over a scoop of vanilla ice cream and topped with condensed milk.
