November 4, 2014 | sack
Walking up to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum will have you thinking you left San Jose and stepped into Ancient Egypt. That’s because the place looks like a temple. Inspired by the Temple of Amon at Karnak, museum seeks to educate its visitors about diversity and cultural relationships throughout time and has one of the largest collections of Egyptian artifacts on the western side of the United States. Visit the museum to learn about the Egyptian’s burial practices, gods and religion, kings and pharaohs, and daily life. Among its collection, you’ll find medicine bottles, jars and jewelry. You’ll also get to view intricate coffins and real life mummies.
Along with intriguing artifacts, the museum also hosts various programs including a junior archeologist program for kids, which provides hands on leaning and a night in the museum after workshop completion. There are also tomb tours and workshops, which in the past have included an ancient Egyptian jewelry workshop and a cosmetics workshop.
