Check Out Austin Fan Fest 2012!

Celebrating 2012's inaugural U.S. Grand Prix, Austin Fan Fest 2012 comes to downtown Austin from November 16-18th. If you haven't heard, the U.S. GP is a Formula 1 race taking place that weekend at Austin's newly constructed Circuit of the Americas race track, and Austin Fan Fest brings the city even more fun with an array of musical acts from all over the country, along with great local and regional bands.

Fan Fest's headline performers Aerosmith, Flo Rida, and Enrique Iglesias will play on main stages for the Fest's three night engagement, while smaller stages will showcase acts like Lupe Fiasco and The Wallflowers.

Around downtown Austin, attendees can also interact with F1 racing related installations, like racing simulators and Formula 1 cars. Arts exhibits, parties, and family friendly events all over downtown make the whole thing complete.

4th Annual Texas Mamma Jamma Ride Against Breast Cancer

On October 27, 2012 the Fourth Annual Texas Mamma Jamma Ride will be held at Reunion Ranch Northwest of Austin. Mamma Jamma is a well-supported, one-day bike ride through the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Participants have a choice of bike routes that run anywhere from 13 to 100 miles. It is a ride, NOT a race. It is an event for men, women, and families, and all levels of biking experience. There will be organized kids activities starting at 10:30 am, a 5k trail run/walk for non-riders and many volunteer opportunities. Funds raised through the Mamma Jamma Ride support local organizations which provide year-round help for people in our community fighting breast cancer.

Three Fun Facts on ACL this weekend!

1) The Box Office is located across the street from the Barton Springs Entrance and will be open during the week of the Festival as follows: Wednesday and Thursday from 3PM to 8PM. Friday through Sunday from 10AM to 10PM.

2) From workshops and engaging activities to all-day music performances, Austin Kiddie Limits will be open daily from 11AM to 4:3PM. And don’t forget — kids 10 and under get in FREE!

3) Topping the list of Austin’s best qualities is its mild fall weather. That said, Mother Nature can be fickle ‘round these parts and you won’t want to be caught unprepared. Pack the sunscreen and a sweater and make sure you have some rain gear just in case a drizzle heads our way.

The Continental Club: Hit The Stage

Austin is well-known as one of the best live music spots in the United States, and there’s always something going on there. One of the top places to catch bands in town is The Continental Club. Opened in 1957, the Club was originally a private supper club that hosted big bandleaders like Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey, but when the Texas rock boom started in the late 1960s, the Continental became a destination for rock fans. The club’s golden age saw legends like Joe Ely and Stevie Ray Vaughn take the same stage as young turks like the Butthole Surfers. In the 80s, the entire club was remodeled to give it a 50s throwback vibe, but the spirit of the place hasn’t changed a bit. On any given night, a band will take the stage, the dance floor will be packed and you’re sure to make a new friend or two.
