San Mateo Trails: Enjoy the Great Outdoors
October 7, 2014 | sack
San Mateo residents are lucky to have one of the most extensive networks of park trails in the region. With nearly one hundred different trails scattered throughout more than a dozen county parks, everyone can find a trail to suit their needs. Walkers might enjoy an easy paved trail like the Promenade Trail that runs along the Coyote Point Promenade with spectacular views across the Bay to the north. Nature enthusiasts might try the unpaved Shoreline Trail with access to the adjacent salt marshes, which are home to a number of waterfowl, butterflies, and other animals.
Cross-country runners and backpackers flock to the more rugged Ridge Trail which climbs to the San Bruno Mountain Summit, while the strenuous 10-mile Butano Ridge Loop that winds more than 2,000 feet through redwoods and mixed evergreen forest is popular with equestrians and advanced hikers. Whether you're interested in a leisurely scenic stroll or a feat of athletic endurance there is a trail that's right for you. Visit the website for a detailed description and map of each San Mateo County Trail.
