The 4th of July is a day where the United States’ citizens celebrate their independence in the best way we know how: parades, food, and, of course, fireworks! In San Mateo, this means the San Mateo Highlands Parade and Fireworks show.

The city’s annual celebration started way back in 1960, and it's been going strong ever since. The day will kick off with a race for the city's active residents, and it is immediately followed by a patriotic parade. Once the parade is through, head over to the neighborhood recreation center for a fun festival filled with music, food and more. At the end of the night, you won't want to miss the city's spectacular fireworks display.
