There’s something about restaurants like Canton's Neponset Café that makes them neighborhood institutions. With delightful comfort food, they fill a vital niche in their community by giving people a comfortable, familiar place to sit and eat. This local favorite offers excellent “bar pies,” ten-inch pizzas topped lightly and grilled to crisp perfection. Try the Buffalo chicken. The big draw here, though, is the clam chowder – some rave that it’s the best in the state. They also offer a number of different daily specials, as well as liver and onions, which the owners swear will never come off the menu. The Neponset Café also hosts one of the area’s most popular trivia competitions every Wednesday night. Host Gary Titus is an engaging showman with a seemingly inexhaustible well of tricky questions, and “It’s Trivia Time” draws huge crowds, so if you have a craving for a slice it may take a while.
