Mai Place: A Fusion of Flavors
February 13, 2013 | greystar
It’s not uncommon for restaurants to combine the cuisines of several countries in order to please more eaters, but few do it quite as well as Canton’s Mai Place. Not far from Jefferson at Dedham Station Apartments, this eatery offers up both Chinese food and Japanese cuisine, both of which are executed at uniformly high quality. Sure, the décor and ambience aren’t much to speak of, but the food does a fine job speaking for itself. Sushi is the primary attraction here, and the fish is fresh and cut perfectly. Rolls are very popular, with some unusual choices like the Valentine Roll, made with no rice and wrapped in cucumber slices instead of seaweed, drawing raves from regular diners. Other popular dishes include the pineapple fried rice that is served baked inside a hollowed-out pineapple and the crispy sesame chicken, but just about everything is good. Prices may be a little high but the excellent preparations and fresh ingredients are worth it.
