The Museum of Fine Arts is one of the most comprehensive art museums in the world, encompassing nearly 450,000 works of art. It welcomes over a million visitors each year to experience art from ancient Egyptian to contemporary, special exhibitions, and innovative educational programs. Highlights include the brand-new Art of the Americas wing, a landmark modern building with major collections of pre-Columbian and Mayan art; Native and African American art; and works by Copley, Winslow Homer, Paul Revere, Gilbert Stuart, John Singer Sargent, and the Hudson River School. The MFA also houses a world-class collection of French Impressionist paintings, with strong representation from Gauguin, Manet, Renoir, Degas, and many others. The collection of Chinese painting and calligraphy is arguably the best outside China.
The Museum of Fine Arts is open every day: Mon. – Tues/Sat. – Sun until 4:45 p.m.; Weds. – Fri. until 9:45 p.m. Admission is as follows: Adults $20; seniors & students (over 18) $18; youths (7-17) $7.50—and free on select days/times; kids 6 and under as well as members get in for free.
