New England Aquarium: Promoting & Protecting the World of the Water
July 31, 2013 | greystar
Located in a striking waterfront building, the New England Aquarium showcases more than 8,000 aquatic creatures in colorful and educational exhibits. The central focus is a 4-story, 200,000-gallon glass tank with a Caribbean coral reef display, including a world-class variety of fish, sharks, sea turtles, eels, and stingrays. At its base, the tank stands in a large, square, 150,000 gallon penguin habitat. The penguins live on small islands in the middle of the exhibit, and can be observed from anywhere in the main gallery. Other highlights include exhibits dedicated to local marine life, an IMAX Theatre, numerous family programs, and seasonal whalewatching trips into Boston Harbor. The scoop on admission: Adults $21.95; Children (3-11) $13.95; Senior (60+) $19.95. Group rates available for groups of 10 or more; IMAX and whalewatch tickets are extra. Hours vary by season; call or check website for details.
