Not so far from the hustle and bustle of Boston are two state parks, each of which displays the true natural beauty of Massachusetts. Take a day trip and consider spending the night at one of their many campgrounds.
Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area
Take advantage of Massachusetts's beautiful waters with a visit to Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. The park comprises 34 islands and peninsulas spread out over 50 square miles. Here you can climb the steps of the well-known Boston Light lighthouse on Little Brewster Island, or take a tour of Fort Warren, which defended the harbor during the American Civil War.
Myles Standish State Forest
Enjoy a day away from the city at the massive Myles Standish State Forest. Located one hour south of Boston, the park offers traditional activities like fishing, canoeing, and hiking. Enjoy a swim off of the coastline at one of the many beaches, and then hop on a horse and explore Standish's elaborate trails. As a bonus, bicyclists are sure to love the expansive “Bicycle Trails of Carver.”
