Microbreweries are opening up all over the country, offering a tasty alternative standard beer. Canton’s Blue Hills Brewery has positioned itself as one of the South Shore’s leading purveyors of fine craft beer, using local ingredients to create very popular brews. Opened in 2009 by founder and head brewer Andris Veidis, the brewery started out by debuting a solid IPA before diversifying to a wide menu of other types of beer. Some of the more popular concoctions include the Black Hops, a smooth, dark black ale with an impressive head, as well as the refreshing Antimatter Kolsch-style ale. Stop in for a tour to check out the facility and get sizable tasting glasses of whatever’s fresh at the moment. On Fridays, they offer free beer tastings from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., which is more than enough reason to make the trip out there. You can also get growlers filled there to take home.
