Dishes are made with quality ingredients and crafted by experienced chefs. Their small portion is perfect for when you want delicious food without feeling stuffed. It’s a great place to go with a few friends and enjoy a quiet meal. The menu rotates seasonally, but regulars recommend risotto and seafood dishes. The bar is known for its unique cocktails; try the Half Smoke, a vodka based drink with citrus and spice flavors. Room 11 has friendly staff that are happy to explain the menu or describe the wine. Hana Japanese Grocery: Snack Factory

This charming convenience store and grocery has won a reputation among locals as the best place in town for authentic Japanese food ingredients and snack foods. Japanese cuisine is remarkably complex and requires some stuff that you won’t find in a typical grocery store. Some of the most popular items on the shelves here include a wide variety of miso pastes, which are used as bases for soups, marinades, and more. Most places offer two types: red and white. Hana goes way beyond that, stocking dozens of unique regional miso blends from all over Japan. Their noodle selection is also very good, with a wide range of udon and soba perfect for all kinds of dishes. And, of course, they boast tons of Japanese snacks, chips, candies, and more. It’s also incredibly easy to get to by public transportation, which is a big plus.

The Columbia Room Reopens in Shaw!

It would seem like the kind of comment that a restaurateur, right on the verge of opening a new space, would make in jest. But if you visit the Columbia Room—open as of Tuesday—you'll see that it's not. This launch is a big deal, both for D.C.'s cocktail aficionados and for Brown. When the original tiny, reservations-only "speakeasy" closed in the early days of 2015 (along with its sister outfit The Passenger), it wasn't because of a lack of interest, but rather because they had lost their lease. Now located just a couple of blocks away from its previous address on 7th Street NW, the Columbia Room is not so much being reopened as being reborn. Read more here.
