When night turns to day, a local bar transforms into a trendy café in downtown DC. Welcome to the Blind Dog Café. Located just a couple of blocks from the U Street Metro Station, the Blind Dog Café is a trendy, comfortable place to come for breakfast or lunch. It’s hard not to like the ambiance, with brick walls, big windows to people watch and comfy chairs and sofas everywhere. This is the coffee house/café you’ve always wanted in your neighborhood! Get a tasty espresso and fresh baked goods to start your day, then come back for an equally delicious sandwich on a fresh baguette. But remember, when the sun goes down, the bar (namely Darnell’s Bar) comes out!

Mad Momos Beer Deck + Restaurant: Fun on the Deck!

You’ll be glad when you come to Mad Momos Beer Deck & Restaurant. Easily located on 14th Street off of N. Spring Road, Mad Momos is a great spot for after work, dinner and late night. The ambiance of the bar and dining room is modern but rustic, with exposed brick walls, a comfortable lounge and nice tables. Regulars recommend that when the weather’s nice, try to get a table on the second floor patio, which has a beautiful view of the neighborhood. Since this is a Beer Deck, check out the wide selection of domestic and imported by the tap and the bottle. There’s also a good variety of wines by the glass and specialty cocktails. And the food is pretty good, too! Check out the Sunday brunch.

Located a block away from the Columbia Heights Metro Station, Acre 121 is more than just a restaurant — it’s a place for good times. The name comes from the neighborhood itself, when 121 acres of land were set aside for Columbia Heights. You will really like the modern décor, with a cool bar and dining area. There’s nothing low about this! It’s a great place to meet up with friends for a drink, especially with a bar that features happy hour drink deals. There are lots of beers on tap and by the bottle, and a good selection of wines by the glass. And, of course, there’s the Carolina spiced, hickory smoked barbeque that will keep you coming back for more.

Maple: A Trendy Spot in Columbia Heights

Located on 11th Street between Monroe Street and Park Road, Maple is a quaint spot to meet up with friends or have a cozy dinner. You will love the bar, made from a rough-cut maple plank. It really gives the place character! There are always a good selection of wines by the glass and bottle, as well as draft and bottled beers, cocktails and a large assortment of after dinner and dessert wines and spirits. On the food menu, you'll find a number of classic Italian dishes like linguine with clams, bruschetta, and burrata. Panini sandwiches and some heartier entrees round out the menu.

What’s the difference between pizza and Apizza? Come to Pete’s New Haven Style Apizza and find out. Located right next to the Columbia Heights Metro Station, Pete’s puts out an Apizza that would please anybody in Connecticut.

With a thin crust, fresh sauce, garlic, basil and a healthy sprinkling of pecorino-Romano cheese, it’s a new and tasty wrinkle on an old classic. There are lots of fresh toppings (including Mozzarella cheese), and specialty pies like the “Boola-Boola” and “The Game,” both tributes to Yale University in New Haven. If you’re not in the mood for pizza, try a tasty salad, Panini or pasta dish.

Taqueria Distrito Federal: Authentic Mexican Food

This small storefront place, located on a quaint residential street in Columbia Heights, has some of the tastiest, most authentic Mexican cuisine around. But be careful, it’s easy to miss so keep your eyes open. You’ll be glad that you did when you come inside to order. The menu is above the counter and easy to ready, but you’ll have a hard time deciding on the taco selection alone.

Whatever you get will be made with the freshest ingredients, to order. The seating is more pizzeria than Mexican restaurant, but you are there for the food!
