Manage Your Weight With Fruits and Veggies

Few foods are better to help manage your weight than nutritious fruits and vegetables. If you want to learn more about using fruits and veggies to achieve your goal weight and stay healthy, these tips from the CDC can help:

Prepare them Properly
To get the most nutrition value, it's best to consume many fruits and vegetables raw or steamed. Steaming cooks them without causing valuable nutrients to dissipate. Avoid adding high calorie, high fat dressings.

Replace Snacks with Fruits and Veggies
The basic idea behind dieting is math: burn more calories than you consume. Fruits and vegtables can help because they're nutritious without being high in empty calories.

Add Fruits and Vegetables to Recipes
For a sneaky way to start eating more of these healthy foods, simply add them to foods you already eat. If you’re making soup, add some vegetables. When you eat your morning cereal, top it with some berries or a cut banana.

The Mutter Museum: A Healthy Dose of Medical History

While normally brains in jars and disfigured skeletons seem a bit eerie, within the confines of Philadelphia’s Mutter Museum, these things are fairly commonplace. The museum, which is one of the finest museums of medical history in the country, features impeccable specimens used for learning about the human body.

From anatomical specimens to antique medical instruments, visitors can view some of the most important advancements in medicine throughout the last two centuries. The Mutter’s collection includes such priceless medical artifacts as a jaw tumor from president Grover Cleveland, the liver from a pair of conjoined twins, and even Einstein’s brain. If you’re interested in the fascinating, wondrous inner workings of the human body, the Mutter Museum is a truly once in a lifetime experience.

The Mutter Museum is fairly small, and it takes only around an hour to tour the whole thing. It’s open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.daily, and general admission is $15. Tickets for students aged 6 through 17 are $10, and senior and military discounts are $13.

Burgers and Shakes at Shake Shake in Philadelphia

Busting through the seams of wax paper sleeves, 100% Angus beef burgers are topped high with crisp green lettuce, wheels of red tomato, gooey melted cheese, and applewood bacon. A pickle is likely to abandon ship, landing on your cafeteria-style serving tray below, which also hosts an overflowing paper container of crinkle-cut fries. Elsewhere on your tray, melting frozen custard oozes out from under the lid of your milkshake.

If you're dining at Shake Shack, expect things to get a little, well, messy. Not that you'll mind! Getting back to basics is what this modern-day roadside burger stand is all about. Served with a smile and a dose of all-American charm, everything at Shake Shack is made to-order, from the burgers and fries to the thick, handspun milkshakes and the Concretes, the latter offering spoonfuls of cookies and candy in blended frozen custard.
