August 11, 2016 2:55 pm

Whether you want to take in a beautiful ballet performance or learn the art of the ballet yourself, the Philadelphia Dance Theater is one of the best places for ballet lovers in the Philadelphia area. This renowned dance school is one of the only ones in the region to offer both classical ballet training and a contemporary dance program, and it has won a number of awards for its fresh, creative choreography.

Classes are available for everyone from first-time dancers to pre-professional ballerinas and for ages ranging from children to young adults. The facility contains three spacious dance studios furnished with hardwood floors and sunny outdoor areas, as well as a viewing room with a one-way window where parents or other supporters can observe the lessons. Twice yearly, the company puts on dance recitals for the public that showcase what they’ve learned that year and enable ballet fans to enjoy an evening of beautiful dancing.

DIY Projects to Help You Corral Common Paper Clutter

August 4, 2016 2:32 pm

A clutter of mail, memos, and paper can make a room feel messy and unorganized. Here are some simple do-it-yourself storage projects to help keep your mail and papers neat and organized—once and for all!

  • Vertical Paper Holders, By Me! [Scrapendipity] Vertical magazine files are easy and inexpensive to make. All you need is priority-mailing boxes from the post office and regular interior latex paint. Lay the boxes flat, paint both sides, cut them using a pattern, then simply assemble them.
  • Shanty Memo Frame! [Shanty 2 Chic] Make your own memo board to hang on your wall. First you will need an empty old frame, or you can just purchase one on sale at any craft store. You can then paint it the color of your choice. Let the paint dry and decorate your frame with flowers or buttons or anything else you want to glue on. Use a staple gun to attach twine to the back of the frame. Just keep twining and stapling back and forth in a random zig-zag pattern until your desired look is achieved.
  • Decorative Burlap Memo Board [Beneath My Heart] Make your own large burlap memo board using a large green foam board, pieces of wood, and upholstery tacks. Start out by measuring the space that you want it in. You’ll then make a wooden frame, then glue that frame on top of the green foam board with a glue gun. Lay the board on top of the burlap and hot glue it tightly to the wood. Finally, nail the upholstery tacks evenly around the edges of the board and you’re finished!

Have You Tried the Pickled Watermelon Rinds at The Living Room Cafe?

July 28, 2016 2:32 pm

No place in the greater Philadelphia area does breakfast quite like The Living Room Cafe. This cozy little corner shop makes breakfast dishes that are almost too good-looking to eat! Muffins, oats, Belgian waffles, and French toast only make up half of the breakfast menu at this little cafe. While the cinnamon apple French toast comes highly recommended, you can also order fresh-farm eggs, bread baskets, and breakfast sandwiches. Vegan and gluten-free options are available, as well as a number of delicious jams.

For lunch, grab a salad or "chicken jawn" sandwich and take a jar of pickles or salsa home to snack on later. You must try the homemade pickled watermelon rinds if they are available. Ask about them when you order!
