Get Down and In Tune at Austin’s Hi Tunes Karaoke

Hi Tunes Karaoke could be Austin’s favorite Karaoke club – there are many reasons why regulars love to sing-along here. At the top of the list are the private rooms that let you party with your friends and avoid gawking if you can’t carry a tune. The rooms also rent by the hour, rather than per person (a 6 person room is $20) and come with multiple wireless mics to make duets easy. They're comfy and the equipment is well-maintained for a high quality sound. If you love global pop music, you’ll appreciate the vast song selection, which includes options in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. The staff is friendly and regulars rave about the excellent customer services at Hi Tunes. Another reason that Hi Tunes is a favorite for karaoke lovers is the late hours, 5 a.m. on weekends. Planning a visit? Make a reservation to ensure you've got a space.

Fresh Seafood and Cold Drafts at Deckhand Oyster Bar

Next time you want to go out to watch the big game, consider Deckhand Oyster Bar in Round Rock. This casual bar is a great place to kick back with a pitcher of beer and a group of friends.  The menu features fresh, casual seafood favorites like fried catfish and crawfish poboys.  Oysters are shucked in front of you, and served on the half shell.  Regulars love the gumbo!  There are several Asian items on the menu too – like tom yum soup, a sweet and sour seafood soup with a little kick. If you order oysters, try the thai sauce, which is a unique complement to their mild flavor. Prices are reasonable and get even lower during happy hour from 3-6 p.m.  The Deckhand serves beer in frosted mugs, but don’t expect craft brews – it’s mostly American favorites. The Thai Tea is a tasty non-alcoholic alternative.

Summer Fan Drive! Going on Now!

Hey Everyone!

It's time for the Summer Fan Drive!
For 23 years, Central Texas has rallied under the hot, Texas sun to bring relief and comfort to vulnerable seniors, adults with disabilities, and families. By Joining in on the Summer Fan Drive, we all can be a critical part of this effort!

How much can a fan really help?
When Family Eldercare knocks at the door of an older adult to deliver a fan, a connection is made. When they talk to that person, they may find that he or she is lonely, hungry, isolated, suffering abuse, or has unmet needs that can be addressed through one of other several programs offered by Family Eldercare. Not only do they supply fans, but each interaction gives Family Eldercare a chance to assess each situation to see if other issues need to be addressed as well.

So, what do we do to help?
The Summer Fan Drive asks that people donate NEW 20" box fans or NEW 12" (or larger) oscillating fans. The fans must be in NEW and in original packaging because of liability issues. They also accept donations. Preferably, donations should be made in $15 increments because a typical, 20" box fan is $15. NEW high-efficiency window a/c units can be donated as well.

Let's all get involved in this great event! The fan drive will be going on now through June 19. Please bring any NEW fans or monetary donations to the leasing office prior to June 19. The fans will be collected on June 19 and delivered to Family Eldercare.

Let’s collect some fans!

The Goodnight: Playground of Your Dreams

When you win the lottery, you'll buy a big house with a lot of toys. Right?

Stop waiting for your numbers to come up, because The Goodnight is your dream come true. This is an absurdly varied playground to suit every Saturday night — there are eight vintage bowling lanes; a cozy 80-person dining and cocktail lounge masterminded by local genius Chef Reggie; four billiards tables; two table tennis courts; shuffleboard; board games; skee ball; live music; movies and Wii face-offs on the deck under the stars … the atmosphere is simultaneously classy and playful, the perfect spot for a date, a birthday, or escaping the bar scene.

Drinks and food aren't cheap — cocktails run about $12, and top-end entrees are $25. Word is that the food's worth it, though. (Crab cakes, pork sliders and ceviche get high marks.)

One piece of advice? Bowl before ordering champagne!
