It’s a DOG DAY AFTERNOON!

We at the Marquis love many things…But soldiers and animals are the heartbeat of us. We found a program called Dogs on Deployment which helps raise money for foster anmals whose parents are deployed. So for the love of dog and soldiers, join us for this event. Mark your calendar from 6pm – 8pm Wednesday May 21st for food and a dog pageant. If your dog is friendly, we encourage you to dress them up and the most patriotic dog wins! We are having a raffle and for every donation made by check or online. NO CASH ACCEPTED! The Counter: Build Your Own Burgers

The concept at The Counter is unique – when you walk into this eatery, you're handed a clipboard with an extensive list of ingredients that allow you to build your own gourmet burger. There are more than 300,000 different combinations, so you could have a unique burger every time you go.

Star by choosing what kind of patty you'd like, with choices including beef, chicken, turkey, or a veggie burger. There are 12 cheeses to select from, about 20 sauces, and a variety of premium toppings, such as sundried tomatoes, avocado, applewood smoked bacon, or chili. Regulars point out that The Counter offers gluten-free buns. If the choices seem overwhelming, you can always order from the regular menu, which is filled with sandwiches, salads, and side dishes.

Blaketree Golf Course: The Best Little Golf Course In Texas

If you’re looking to hit the links on a course that’s a little off the beaten path, try Montgomery’s Blaketree. Developed by Houston entrepreneur Thomas Blake, this course located just northwest of Houston is a fantastic par-71 course nestled in 325 acres of lush, rolling greenery. Blake had become tired of the rules and regulations of country clubs in the 1960s and 1970s and set out to make his own course where golf could be played without any of the to do that had come to surround it. The course is exceptionally dramatic, with dense forests and seven lakes surrounding the carefully maintained fairways and greens. A number of interesting elevation changes are another hallmark of the course’s 18 holes, many of which offer interesting play choices for the seasoned golfer. The course is remarkably isolated, with no residences or other buildings bordering the area, making for a spectacularly quiet and private golfing experience.

  1. Turn them into a display. If you have a too-big shoe collection and a too-small closet, make the most of your addiction. Treat your shoes like invaluable art by displaying them somewhere unexpected, like along a windowsill or in a credenza.
  2. Maximize space with flat shoes. While boots or heels can be clunky and hard to store, things even out with flats and sandals. These shoes can help you save a bit of precious storage space, so invest in a hanging shoe rack with flat pockets, or tuck them into an unused drawer.
  3. Stow fancy shoes away from the others. If you have a pair of expensive heels or leather tuxedo shoes that you only wear on special occasions, keep them in clear shoeboxes on a high shelf to make room for everyday pairs.
  4. Create DIY storage. Shoe storage units can be expensive, so why not get crafty and create your own? Bend some wire hangers to hang flats and sandals from sturdy cords.

Painting With a Twist: Unlock Your Inner Artist

Painting With a Twist has an interesting back story. After Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, friends and Louisiana natives Cathy Deano and Renee Maloney thought their neighbors could use an activity to help them de-stress. They started holding painting classes and encouraged the budding artists to bring their own wine. Eventually it blossomed into Painting With a Twist, which now has 81 franchise locations, including one in Spring, near The Woodlands.

Bring your favorite bottle of wine or other beverage, invite some friends, and a professional artist will walk you through how to create a painting, step by step. All of the painting supplies are provided. If you don't have any painting experience or artistic leanings, that's okay, because the goal at Painting With a Twist is to simply have fun. And who knows, maybe you will be happy enough with your final result that you will want to hang it on your wall!
