Sports injuries can happen for many reasons, from accidents to improper stretchhing. The most common injuries are sprains, shin splints, knee injury, and tennis elbow. Avoid a sports injury by following these tips.
- Don't forget about the warmup and cool-down. Stretching may seem like a waste of time, but trust us, it isn't. It allows the muscles to contract and perform correctly, making it more likely you'll suffer from an injury.
- Start slow. If you haven't played a sport for awhile ease back into it. Don't go out and play a full game of soccer after months of inactivity. Start with 15 to 30 minutes of casual play.
- Wear the proper sports attire, from helmets and pads to shoes.
- Rest. If you continue to play day after day the muscles will become fatigued, which is when injury can happen. Know your limitations and listen to your body.
- If you do get hurt, see a health professional immediately. Continuing to play through the pain can make the injury worse and harder to heal.
