How to Build a Totally Awesome Indoor Fort for Your Kids

It can be hard to entertain the kids indoors on rainy days, so why not try a fun, classic activity to keep them occupied? Building a blanket fort is an adventure for the whole family, and best of all, the fort will provide hours of entertainment after you’re done building! Use these easy ideas to build the blanket fort of your little one’s dreams.

  1. Use a piece of furniture. Want to make an instant fort without the hassle? Simply drape a large sheet over the kitchen table, desk, or larger coffee table—and voila!—instant blanket fort.
  2. Create a corner fort. Another easy blanket fort idea involves using the corner of the room. Attach some type of hanging device to the top of the corner (a small hook, nail, or even heavy duty tape will do), and then use it to support one corner of the sheet. Stretch the rest of the sheet out to the floor and secure the corners with heavy objects to create a teepee-style fort.
  3. Take up a whole room. Your kids will never forget the day you let them transform an entire room into their own personal fortress. Of course, it helps if you choose a small room, as a large one might require a bit more blankets than you have on hand. Simply hang lightweight sheets across the walls and ceiling in a room to create an airy, expansive fort.
