Cool Off With a Mangonada at Mango Beach in Houston

If you’ve never tried a traditional Mexican Mangonada, you’re in for a real treat at Houston’s Mango Beach. The Mangonada is an orange and mango slush topped with chamoy and chile lime salt, creating a delicious sweet and salty taste that is also very refreshing. These are by far the most popular items at Mango Beach, a popular sweet spot where locals often go to beat the Texas summer heat. In addition to Mangonadas, you’ll find savory lunch options like elote (a cheese-covered Mexican street corn) and hot Cheeto pie. There are a number of other types of blended fruit desserts and sno-cones, and you can add vanilla ice cream on top of any item to make it even more delicious.

Mango Beach is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily throughout the spring and summer. There are limited hours during the fall and winter months.

How to Host a Swap Party

While you may have heard of the clothing swap and the book swap, who says that you can’t swap everything that you frequently use? Swap parties are great ways to de-clutter your home while also recycling your unused items, and they’re mutually beneficial for everyone who attends. Now, how about a snack swap?

  1. Decide what to swap. Consider things that you and your friends all use, such as clothing, shoes, books, kids' toys, and music.
  2. Let your guests know what to make. If you don’t want to swap pre-used goods, host a food swap with items like soup or cookies. Just make sure to let your guests know well in advance so that they can get to cooking or baking.
  3. Pick the right amount of people. Depending on the size of your home, you might want to narrow your invite list down to only a few people (just make sure that you invite at least five, or it won’t be much of a swap!).
  4. Send an e-vite. In order to detail the instructions clearly, send all of your guests an email at least two weeks in advance.
  5. Set up a swapping area. Clear out the swap room so that you have ample space to browse, and then make displays for the swappable items, such as tables or clothing racks.
  6. Swap! Go around the room taking turns, or let your guests loose in a free-for-all swapping excursion.

Use the Principle of Induction to Solve the King’s Wise Men Puzzle

Logic puzzles using the principle of induction typically center around a number of different participants, each with equal reasoning capabilities. The solution is often based on identifying the most obvious case happening, and then asking what the next possible obvious case is once one participant realizes that the most obvious case has not happened. The King’s Wise Men puzzle is a similar induction puzzle, and you can test your wits with this challenging dilemma.

The King’s Wise Men puzzle begins with three wise men placed before a mighty king, each a candidate for the king’s new advisor. The king then placed a hat on each man’s head so that all of the men could see each other’s hat, but not his own, and told them that whichever man accurately guessed his own hat color would be the new advisor. The hats were either white or blue, and the king promised that at least one hat was blue. The men were assured that the contest was completely fair, but they were forbidden to speak to one another.

One man eventually guessed the correct hat color, and he became the advisor. What color was his hat, and how did he determine its color? To find out the correct answer, visit the Wikipedia page about the puzzle!
