See Native Butterflies, Plants, and More at the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary

October 24, 2017 | orion

Colorful winged creatures float gracefully from one vibrant flower to the next in the Native Texas Butterfly House and Garden, one of the most popular attractions at the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary. The butterfly house is packed with lavish plants that naturally draw the colorful insects. The makeup of the butterfly population varies, depending on the time of year, so there's always a new specimen to see at the butterfly house.

This is just one exhibit in the much larger Heard Museum, however. This museum pays homage to the natural history of Texas with a lineup of attractions and activities that weave the tail of early Texas up through present day. The Native Texas Snakes exhibit sheds some light on the 120-plus snakes that are indigenous to the state, including some live examples. The Native Plant Garden buzzes with activity, inviting hummingbirds and bumblebees to its local flowers. Other exhibits cover topics like the early Texan pioneers, dinosaurs, and animals from beyond the fringes of Texas, so be sure to check it out!
