Celebrate Plano’s Past at the Interurban Railway Museum

August 16, 2016 | orion

From train station to lawn mower repair shop, the building on East 15th that now houses the Interurban Railway Museum has served many roles in the city of Plano. As the Railway Museum, it pays homage to the earliest days of the city when the station was an integral part of the Texas Electric Railway.

This station served an important purpose along the Texas Electric Railway. It housed a special converter that transformed the incoming electric current into a variety that could be used to power passing locomotives. Learn more about the technology behind this device at the museum. You can also actually step inside a vintage railcar and imagine what it was like traveling in the early 20th century. The museum plays host to other temporary exhibits that change all the time, so keep an eye out for new ones even if you've visited the museum before. Admission is always free.
