31st Annual Aubrey Peanut Festival and Parade: Celebrate the City’s History
September 23, 2016 | orion
Peanuts are really what put Aubrey, Texas on the map. Historically, the peanut crop supplied a large part of the cash flow for Aubrey's economy. That's why the Aubrey Peanut Festival began in 1986—as a way to celebrate the economic power of the peanut (and, at the time, to support the local library). Now 30 years later, the local economy has diversified a bit, but the Aubrey Peanut Festival carries on as a nod to the city's past.
The festival promises live music all day long as well as performances by local dance groups to go with it. Of course, there's a massive parade that begins at 10 a.m. This year, its theme is "Peanuts to Pearls," dedicated to the history of the Aubrey Area Library. After the parade, continue to explore the 150-plus arts and crafts booths and grab some food while you're at it.
