Hillwood Museum and Gardens: Beautiful Tour

The estate of cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post, Hillwood Museum and Gardens is located on 25 acres on the edge of D.C.’s Rock Creek Park. For $15, you can feast your eyes on her famed collection of Russian Imperial art and 18th Century French furnishings. Faberge eggs, Russian icons, Beauvais tapestries, and Sevres porcelain are among the 17,000 items displayed on the self-guided house tour.  A stroll on the grounds reveals lush formal gardens opulently landscaped in various themes, with hundreds of carefully tended plants that are especially glorious in spring and fall. Stop in at the café for high tea or lunch before or after you take your tour. Open Tuesday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
