Take Your Taste Buds on a Trip to the Sea at Calamari’s

Seafood is the focal point at Calamari's, a new restaurant that is only 1.5 miles from Siena at Memorial Heights.

Games like ping pong, corn hole, and giant Jenga are available for guest’s enjoyment, too. As the night continues until the wee hours, a DJ provides tunes for guests. In short, this place has a bunch of great things going on beyond food!

Calamari’s is open until 2 a.m. nightly, so if you don’t stop by for seafood, be sure to make plans to visit the eatery for drinks and partying.

Fig and Wasp Test Kitchen: Something New Every Month

Fig and Wasp Test Kitchen isn't your average Mediterranean restaurant. It just opened at the beginning of October less than a mile from Siena at Memorial Heights, offering a new type of cooking philosophy. Instead of leaving the same dishes on the menu month after month—and the same person in charge of the kitchen—Fig and Wasp introduces guest chefs every four weeks. These guest chefs are charged with designing three new dishes, the only guideline being they must be inspired by the flavors of the Mediterranean. The visiting chef will teach the in-house team how to recreate their new dishes, then leave them to do so for the rest of the month.

This inventive approach to cuisine should result in something a little bit different each month, perhaps kebabs packed with tender lamb or flatbreads topped with feta and spinach. Tapas will also factor heavily into each monthly menu at Fig and Wasp, so you'll be able to sample small bites of a few different plates. What do you think of this concept?

The Brand-New Moonshiners Southern Table and Bar Makes Meals in Mason Jars

Whether it's a salad, a cocktail, or a dessert, everything tastes better served in a mason jar. At least, that seems to be the train of thought at The Moonshiners Southern Table and Bar, an eatery that opened in July about two miles from Siena at Memorial Heights. The eatery serves up everything from sides to sweets in mason jars, a nod to its country-chic inspiration.

So sip your water from a jar while you look over the menu of signature cocktails, such as the Apple Pie. It features Ole Smokey Apple Pie Mooshine mixed with Licor 43 and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. You can also try the Lavender Dream, a cocktail crafted with lavender-infused American Born Moonshine, vanilla syrup, melon liqueur, and lemon juice. Match your cocktail with shrimp and grits, honey barbecue chicken, or rainbow trout.

Izakaya: A New Restaurant Serving Unique, Japanese-Inspired Pub Food

A new bar and restaurant in the growing Midtown foodie scene, Izakaya offers Japanese/pub food fusion fare that's both unique and tasty. Opened in July less than two miles from Siena at Memorial Heights, this place is noted for the fact that it doesn't offer the typical sushi, hand rolls, and teriyaki that you'd find at the typical Japanese restaurant.

Instead, its food is what you might expect to find on the menu of any gastropub, but with an Asian twist. Mochi and bacon skewers, street corn with togarashi bonito flakes, and Japanese curry dip, and poached egg with fries and bonito flakes are the kinds of small plates you can find here. The bar is stocked with beer, wine, cocktails and, of course, sake to pair perfectly with these avant-garde dishes. Izakaya recently added desserts like the Elvis in Tokyo, an almond flavored cake topped with vanilla ice cream, peanut butter and jelly – a perfect finisher for a night out.
