Learn about Different Business Structures with These SBA Guides

If you'd like to learn more about different kinds of business structures, the U.S. Small Business Administration’s website offers helpful guides describing things like S-Corps, LLCs, and sole proprietorships. Here are some of the basic differences:

Sole Proprietorship
This is the simplest business structure, and it is also the most common among new businesses. Sole proprietorships have no distinction between the business itself and the owner of the business, and the two operate as one entity.

Limited Liability Company
LLCs are business structures somewhere between sole proprietorships and corporations. They're their own entities — often owned by multiple shareholders — but they retain some of the flexibility of sole proprietorships.

Corporations
Corporations, or C-Corps, are more complex business structures, with distinctive tax and legal requirements. This form is more typical for large businesses, but small businesses sometimes use the form, too, if they're anticipating rapid growth or outside investment.

Find Fresh Local Produce with a CSA Share

A CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, a community of individuals who monetarily support a local farm in exchange for fresh, seasonal produce and goods throughout the growing season. CSAs are wonderful ways to support local farmers and to ensure that you and your family eat locally grown vegetables. These sites can help you find a nearby CSA:

National Agricultural Library

Here you’ll find information about how CSAs work, explanations of where food comes from, and educational literature about farming and agriculture. The site also offers a list of websites that can help you locate a CSA in any area across the country.

Local Harvest
The Local Harvest website offers informative tips and frequently asked questions to help visitors make informed decisions about becoming CSA members. It also features a map of CSA farms across the country, with a space to search by your own state or zip code.

Farm Locator
Not only does Farm Locator connect visitors with CSAs, it also connects farmers with other farmers, farmers to local businesses, and businesses to buyers to help improve the exchange of produce and goods from all sides. The detailed search bar even allows you to browse the site by product, type of market, or area to find the best farms for your needs.

Baja-Style Salmon Tacos
Unlike many restaurant tacos, this recipe adds up to just 325 calories and is packed with 24 grams of necessary protein. The grilled salmon and whole wheat tortillas give these Baja-style fish tacos a healthy makeover that’s still a flavorful treat.

Baked Red Snapper With Zesty Tomato Sauce
Create an elegant dinner for your family or your guests with this low-fat, low-calorie Italian fish dish. Use your choice of either red snapper or bass to find the taste you prefer, and top with zesty tomato sauce for major flavor.

Carriage Barn Arts Center: Palace Of Expression

The Carriage Barn Arts Center is located in a glorious historic stone building on the former Waveny Estate. This is a place with real history — the New Canaan Society for the Arts opened it in 1895. Unfortunately, the Society went dormant in the early 20th century and the barn was shuttered until 1977, when a new group of local artists re-opened it. The barn’s centerpiece, the Betty Barker Gallery, hosts a half-dozen exhibitions every year. Three regulars include the juried photography exhibition and Spectrum, a showcase for many of the area’s best visual artists. The gallery is a well-lit and spacious location that is an awesome environment to showcase works, and the building and its gardens are a pleasure to explore. In addition, the recently-formed Waveny Park Arts Alliance is using the space to host free concerts and theatrical performances in the gallery. **Closed in the summer.

Located in a former department store building, Grand offers upscale comfort food and one of Stamford’s trendiest clubs.  Stop in for an early bird dinner an enjoy a gourmet yet classic American meal that starts with complimentary house-made chips.  If you’re feeling indulgent, try the mac and cheese with truffles and Gruyere cheese.  Gourmet burgers with grass fed beef, free range turkey or a homemade veggie patties are the star of the menu.  You can build your own or choose from their house creations like the bing burger with fresh mozzarella and cherry preserves.  The bar is known for its inventive cocktails and whips up grown-up milk shakes – try the “Float My Boat” with root beer flavored vodka.
