The American Civil Rights Movement exists both in history and in the present day, and the Center for Civil and Human Rights shines a light on every aspect of it. The museum also ties in the current Global Human Rights Movements that are going on all around the globe.
Evelyn Lowery and former UN Ambassador Andrew Young, two driving forces in the Civil Rights Movement, created the Center with the help of then-mayor Shirley Franklin in 2007. It occupies a 42,000-square-foot space next door to the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium. The Center seeks to get visitors thinking about their own rights and the rights of others through a series of exhibits focused on the past and present. Ultimately, its goal is to get guests to act on their social responsibilities after gaining a deeper understanding of what they entail. Be sure to check out this important center.
