The Grubbies Serves Fresh Sashimi With Flair

January 24, 2018 | sack

You don't get more hole-in-the-wall than The Grubbies. This restaurant is, quite literally, a hole in the wall. It consists of a single order window carved into the side of a kitchen along Second Street, as well as a small adjacent dining area. It sells a limited number of boxes stuffed with high-quality sashimi every day — some customers guess about 50 of them —so when the kitchen runs out, you're out of luck. However, if you're among the lucky diners who snag some sushi, you won't be disappointed.

Each order comes tucked inside of to-go containers, which are stacked and wrapped up in a cloth scarf and handed over as a bundle. Even the mini chef's choice, a selection of sashimi over kale, boasts tons of flavor. It comes with a medley of raw, fresh fish, rice, miso soup, and edamame, plus some soy sauce to drizzle on top. You can order a larger combo of fish if you're willing to pay a bit more for lunch, but regardless of what you choose, it will consist of fresh, sushi-grade fish.
