Plan a Chic Meet at San Francisco Wine & Cheese

On a busy stretch of Gough Street, halfway between Oak and Lily, you’ll find San Francisco Wine & Cheese tucked into the rows of shops. Pete Resakual, who operated another cheese shop in the East Bay for years, took over the spot in 2015. He and his partner, Shirley Ng, provide a top-class selection of wines and cheeses, of course, but also house-roasted coffee, gourmet chocolates, cured meats, and even deli sandwiches.
Regulars recommend the “Frenchie” sandwich (ham, brie, butter and cornichons on a baguette) for a particularly satisfying lunch order. During happy hour Tuesday through Friday from 3 to 5 p.m., you can get a glass of wine, sliced baguette and cheese of the day for just $12, with additional specials available on charcuterie. Having dinner nearby? Savvy locals waiting for tables at adjacent restaurants often pop in for a quick glass of wine. Planning a special event? The back patio is available for elegant, yet affordable gatherings.
