February 26, 2019 | sack
Nestled in the Mission neighborhood, Mitchell’s Ice Cream is an iconic family-owned ice cream shop serving both classic and creative flavors made in small batches on the premises. The shop opened in 1953 with 19 flavors all made with 16% butterfat cream and superior ingredients.
Mitchell’s continued to add flavors as the store became more popular, and in the early 1960’s, they introduced Mango ice cream to the Bay Area, which quickly became (and remains to this day) their number one seller. Mitchell’s has continued to increase the number of tropical flavors, even importing a variety of exotic fruit from the Philippines, Latin America, and Europe to create the ice cream. Other favorite flavors include Grasshopper Pie (peppermint ice cream with chocolate chips, Oreo cookies, and fudge swirls), Toasted Almond (Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla blend loaded with roasted California almonds), and Horchata (rice milk flavored ice cream with a swirl of cinnamon honey).
Visit Mitchell’s Ice Cream daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
